Does anyone know if there was a specific POWER steering box for the XB GTs?I know about the 16:1 manual steering box but I have heard differing stories regarding the power steering box.One version is that the GTs had the same power box as any other XB model and the other version is that GTs had 16P stamped on them,which made it a different box to the others.No theories please as I have heard enough of those,but if someone knows for sure,that would be refreshing!

well I have had a few GT's with P/S in my time and I dont ever recall seeing 16P stamped on them...thats said they may have been replaced at some stage..I think you'll find they were one and the same when it came to power steer....

All power boxes are 16:1, the GT just had a manual version of that box instead of the normal manual one.

Power steering is a Bendix-bishop VARIABLE ratio. "Vaiable ratio" refers to the fact that steering in the straight ahead position is substantially less direct then in turns.

maximum (on centre): 17.5:1
minimum (on lock):11:1

Only 2 1/2 turns lock to lock required. This feature is provided by a variable pitch hourglass worm. Another great aussie innovation.

I know XD's had variable ratio p/s. (Factory workshop manual says). XW/XY had ram assist p/s with the 16:1 manual box. XA on went to the p/s in the steering box with VARIABLE RATIO.
