Hi all

Finally biting the bullet and buying an xb coupe this week which is un reg'd. To reg it i will obviously need a RWC.

What i would like to know is, does anyone know of a place in the westeren burbs in the essendon area that does them that is not too picky if you know what i mean?

I recently bought an xe f'mont ghia in perfect condition and when i took that for the RWC they guy picked me for a whole heap of stuff such as worn dust cover on some suspension parts, minor exhaust leak, un aligned head lights etc etc. I know these things are important but when i took it to another place to get a tyre put on the guys there said i was extremely unlucky to get picked up on all these things.

Have you all found in your experience that most places are this picky or did i just get a bad one that wanted me to pay them to fix all these little things?
I was under the impression that RWC's were more of a safety orientated thing, brakes, tyres, seat belts etc etc.

So it would be great if someone could point me in the right direction of a place around here (essendon) that will not stuff me around with it as i want to be able to reg it and drive it asap!! Or even if any of you are mechanics that do them.

Also,

With the rego will i just need to take the RWC to vicroads and pay or will they need to inspect it too??

If they inspect it what do they look for?
Will they pollution test and noise test?

got my coupe done about a year ago in east subs. Guy a roadworty shop was was too busy looking at all the gear fitted underneath to notice any of the problems.

before you do the RWC stick your head under it and clean / replace any dodgey bits - you're gonna have to do them later anyway. i reckon its worth it so the mechanic doesnt think "what a heap of ...." when you roll into the shop.

Vicroads never checked my coupe - they never even saw it. But my previous car they did look at - the vicroads lady made me read the engine number cos she didnt want to lean into the engine bay and get dirty. she poked at the gas line, asked if the color of the car was original then lost interest - she had no idea at all.

vic roads looked at my coupe .. all they were interested in was the engine number.
For your own protection you are better off getting a strict RWC as the police WILL give you attention.

Doesn't matter if it's an XB coupe or not.

Make sure all the right bits work and accessories etc, and
that all your pollution goodies are connected, and you
shouldn't really have a drama.

A good wash and tidy up never hurts!!

Oh, also clean the engine number on the block, and rub it with chalk so the numbers stand out.

The girl at the main roads WILL appreciate it, and you will be right!

Should 74 xb's have pollution gear? I though it only cam in on xc's?

No. "Pollution" gear is 1976 onwards.

the XBs only had charcoal canisters and EGR from memory.. thats about it
