Xc To Xa

Hi everyone I am thinking of buying an XC gxl 351 4 speed, to put drive train and rear wheel discs into my XA coupe, witch is currently a 302 T bar with 2.92 bord warner diff. Am I right in my thinking it should all bolt straight in, peddle box master cylinder etc. Any assistance much appreciated.

Re: Xc To Xa

The XC master cylinder won't bolt to the XA booster, you have to change the booster and master as an assembly- no big deal. Everything else will fit. Depending on what radiator is in the XC you may have trouble bolting in the lower mounts to the XA, but it can be done, again, no big deal. The diff will go straight in. The handbrake cables won't. You have to use a combination of the XA and XC stuff to make it work, but if you have two cars to pick parts from it should be OK. The speedo cable will be on the other side.

Now, the real question is, where are you going to find a 351 4 speed XC GXL....?

You would be better off selling your XA to me and buying another car. Is the XA a factory 302 with original engine at the moment?

Re: Xc To Xa

The hard part is that they never did a 4 speed 351 GXL. So it looks like you will be look for some time for one.

Yes they did. It was an option with a 4.9 or 5.8 "GT Power Pack" (This is Fords description, not mine). It was not available with the standard 4.1 engine.

3 against 1 at the moment. Anyone else care to weigh in....?

No-one's agueing the engine, just the eng/trans combo in a GXL

Well dont bet me, I am right. In fact, one of the "King of the Hill" tests in 78 was a 5.8 4 speed GXL v a 5.0 4 speed HZ GTS. Prove me wrong.

PS I have lots of evidence.

Re: Xc To Xa

Ok I don't want to sell my coupe, the guy that has the XC at the moment is the second owner and tells me it was ordered from the factory with the 4 speed I will try and check the numbers maybe they will give some info.Might be a good one to give some tlc and rego if it checks out, it certainly goes hard.It would be a shame to strip bits off a rare car!

Re: Xc To Xa

It's only an XC, nothing rare there. Will only be a single rail from factory, not a top loader, unless owner/s has changed it in past. Just look for letter L in trans spot on compliance plate.

OK, I will back down. I am only going on second-hand info. I am personally not an XC fan, although a mate is. He has always cried about Ford never making an XC GXL 351 4 speed, as he reckons it would have been a good car. SO, after listening to his whinging for years, I just took it as fact. Please accept my apology on this. I enjoy blasting people who talk out of their ar$e, and don't want to be on the receiving end of something similar. I am sorry.
