Xy/xw 5.4

Hey all.
Here is the problem.. My girlfriend's younger brother wants to buy a wrecked BA XR8 and put the 5.4L engine or an AU 5L in an XY that we are going to rebuild from scratch.
What problems do you think we are going to have to overcome to get it in there?
It is a long-term project (obviously) but we are not in any hurry to finish it, he's only 14 and won't start driving for a couple of years.
I'm 18 his dad knows his stuff, we all race stock cars and this isn't our first project.
You gotta help me, this would be the ultimate 1st car for a kid, just think if you had it for your first car.

datsun 1600 and go to a do some advanced driving school, build the xy urself, chances are u will break up with the girlfriend and the project will not happen. also u can buy these engines of a creat in the usa.
btw my first car was a centura with a 360 v8, then a ford cobra 5.8 auto with a sun roof.

Hi Jynx13, welcome to ford forums.

If it is a long term project, get him to focus on the bodywork and then the interior. That way, if he looses interest, he doesn't have as much $$ outlayed.

IMO, the windsor out of the AU would be the way to go to start with.
The BA XR8 conversion would be very expensive and would require a lot of development work to get round a few issues, like drive by wire.

i think the 5.4's are a fairly wide motor, dont like the chances of it fitting between the shock towers. you could fit the RRS strut kit to fit it in. plus the 5.4 is actually heavier than a clevo.

I think you wil find it is 70mm wider at the heads which means it wont fit anything Ford unless you butcher the front towers, eg RRS strut kit. And yes it does weigh more than a clevo. You would be much better off with a 302 windsor from an AU, with the coil pack ignition on those things you could just about fit a blower on top and not even cut a whole in the bonnet. Plus its lighter which means better handleing and less power needed for the same performance.
