hey guys, i recently bought an xy ute, i live in a small country town here in south east qld, and this ute was apparently just a 500, and it was all optioned up,pretty much a fairmont, but a gs...if that makes any sence. but it was white and had gold gs stripes, 351c, toploader, 9" etc, but its got GT 8000rpm, and 140mph gauges, but since then his (unappreaciative) son has owned it, so now its go no gt stripes, no id plate, staight white, 2vheads, and the gt tacho and speedo, or did the gs and gt have the same gauges? and it has the 3 little gauges down the side too. anyway i work in an auto parts store and i met this guy who used to be a salesman in a ford dealership, and he swears thats how it came from the factory, and my dad works with the guy that used to service it at ford. plus being a small town everybody knows it, recently we had some plumbers over to put new guttering on, and even the 2 40-45ish asked me about it, and when i sed who used to own it, they went "oooooohh yeah" so whats your opinion fella's? A genuine gs ute, but coz of 1 d%#khead son, no proof.
Well I dont think Ford ever kept proof on just how many GS Falcon's were actually made, but the only difference between the GS and GT dash was the GT was grey in colour and the GS was black, the latter XY's(ho)and I think the XW(HO) had the 8 grand tacho,so it sound's like a nice vehicle anyway 351,toploader,9 inch with all the goodie's,got any pic's.

well here are the 1st 2 pics, more are coming, prolly tomorrow nite. she will be nice when she is finished.
it looks a bit funny here because the spotlights are hidden hehind the grille.
Correct me if I'm wrong anyone, But I have it on very good authorite that there is no way whatsoever to tell if a falcon (or fairmont) is a gs. So it kind of makes it hard to verify anything about them, odds are though if its a factory 351 4 speed 9 inch, it may very well be a gs.

The GS Option pack was available on Falcon 500 and Fairmont. To tell if the car had it, ask the Ford Discovery Centre to look though their information as to what the SIDO Number (on the ID Tag). From that number, they should be able to tell you what options the car had.

There are a few way's to tell if it is a original GS, there are some people who know these vehicle's back to front and I once heard that by looking at thing's such as the position and colour of the wire's for the extra gauge's behind the dash as long as they are original, you can tell it's authenticity, there is little thing's like this that you can tell it's origin's, you just need to find the right people who know what to look for.

Hmmn, I may be corrected yet. I didn't think ford could actully verify gs option packs, But that being said I've never tried to verify one. And as for the wiring galaxy, I'm sure there would be a loom unique to cars with gt (gs) dash's (and driving lights), but I'm fairly sure that these were available as options on normal cars, as they were in the later models. And also, if you found one that hasn't had the wiring played with by now , odds are the owner would still have the original receipt for it, well mabey not the reciept but you know what I mean. It would have to be one original (and reliable) ute for the wiring never to have been touched.
