I am doing an OEM style rebuild of the original 429 SCJ in my Drag Pack Torino Cobra. It is a C6 auto and W code 4:30 rear.

The car will be a street driven cruiser and I want a replacement flat tappet mechanical cam. I want to compare any replacment to the original yet I cannot find the original cam specs anywhere. I was told the lift on the origianl was .506/.506 but that is all I could find.

I am aware that Holman Moody has 2 versions for a 429 SCJ motor and one is a little more agresssive than the other. Does anyone have any experience with either? Thanks for the help.

D0AZ-6250-D 429SCJ 1970/71, lash .024", valve timing- 41/79, 89/31, @050", 5atc/21, 43/27btc. adv dur 300 i&e, lift@lobe .298", lift@valve .509", overlap 72deg. thats the only specs a have so i hope it helps out. its a beast of sounding cam but being a very old school grind you could do well from fitting something more modern and get more response and hp. and retain the origional very lumpy sound of the SCJ ... what cam are you thinking of fitting.? CraneCams , the crane F246 will give you a similar idle quality as the SCJ cam and perform a whole lot better., or maybe you could get a copy of SCJ cam made although they are very flat down low(slightly better if advanced 4 or 6 deg) and really for what they are dont perform all that well.
