1971 lincoln mk 3

I have a 71 mk and thee is a relay on the firewall mounted on a small rubber block by the brake booster..it has a three wire connector 10g yellow (always hot) a red 10g and a pink 18 g wires also a ground that grounds to firewall. these plug into the wire harness and go into the drvers compartment under dash,my starter doesn't work unless i disconnect it otherwise when i try to turn the eng over it just makes a ping noise.anyone have any ideas what this is for??

Not really a 460-based question....I don't know the answer but someone may. I suggest locating a wiring diagram for that year and model vehicle and/or try locating a Classic Lincoln Enthusiasts Forum.
