1984 E-350 Exhaust problems!

I have a 1984 E-350 with the 460 CID engine. When you replace the exhaust manifold gaskets, do you install the Felpro heat shields also? If so, does the heat shield go between the manifold and the gasket? I just can't see how I could keep that from leaking. Do I need to use them, or are they just nice to have?

Also is there any good way of fixing a leak between the Y-Pipe and the exhaust manifold? It seems to be just a metal to metal fit without any gasket. I just can't stop it from leaking.

cool Re: 1984 E-350 Exhaust problems!

droyrp,

I don't know the answer to your question because I don't work with E350 vans much, but I suspect that the heat shields are provided for your vehicle because the engine compartment is very tight and Ford is protecting some nearby components from excess heat.

I believe the collector has an exhaust donut that gets sandwiched between the Y-pipe collector and the exhaust manifold.

Hopefully someone else can assist you more.

Paul
