Hey. I'm Mark from Denmark, i have a Ford Galaxie 500XL cab from 1969, it hads a 390 with a C6 and i want to swap it for a 460, is that possible and with my C6 from the 390?
Look forward to here from someone. Thangs in advance.
Is it possible? Sure, but the existing C6 won't bolt-up to it. You could get a compatible C6 or go with a 428 which should bolt up to your current tranny.
The C6 is a one-piece unit, meaning that the bell housing cannot be removed from the transmission. The bell housing in located on the front of the transmission. The torque converter sits inside the bell housing. If a seam exists between the bell housing and the center of the transmission, the transmission is not a C6. As far as I know there was "never" a C6 with a removable bellhousing. I'm sure that someone will let us know if I'm wrong.
