429/ 460 Cam and Valvetrain, is it interchangeable????

Hey guys.. Can anyone tell me if cams, pushrods, and rocker arms are interchangeable between a 429 and 460?? I spun a rod bearing in my boat 460 and bought another 460. Turns out its a 429 not a 460. I want to use the valvetrain and cam out of my 460 cause its all good and the cam is a loper and put it into the 429. I wont be running the 460 heads, cause the 429 came with Dove-c heads. I just really hope all that stuff is interchangeable. Thanks

On any given year of production, the 429 and 460 share the same internal parts except for the crankshaft (stroke) and pistons (pin location). BUT if they are from different model years then they might not have 100% interchangeability, specifically in the area of the valve train. So if your boat heads are currently D3VEs then the valve train from the D0VE heads will not work with the D3VE heads, and visa-versa. It would be necessary to change the entire top end of the engine as a complete set. D0VE heads use a rocker stud valve train while D3VE heads use a pedestal style bolt-down rocker arm valve train, and these two valve trains are not interchangeable.

The cam and lifters from the 460 with D3VE heads may be installed into the 429 with D0VE heads, however when transferring the big cam to the 429 it is important that each lifter from the boat engine be put into the exact same lifter bore location of the new engine. With this cam & lifter swap, you may (or may not) need to play with pushrod length to get the proper hydraulic lifter preload with this new parts combination. Treat the engine with the cam swap with a cam break-in at initial startup.
