The D1VE engineeringrevision blocks were used in productoinfrom 1971-1978 only. They are itnernal balance engines.

Beginning in the 1979 model year, the engine became externally balanced and used a D9TE cylinder block.

It might be possible (very slim chance) that yours is a very, very early 1979 model engine (the D1VE blocks are capable of accomodating the later model external balaced rotating assmblies). Is it externally balanced or internally balanced?
