429s and 460s use the same timing chain.
What do you mean by, "lower distributor shaft on number cylinder?" Does that mean you are postioning the distributor rotor where #1 is on the cap and then installing the distributor into the engine block? If so, then you are probabaly a tooth off on the distributor positioning.
If you mean soemthing else, then please elaborate.
