Question Is 460 Ok 4 Everyday?

Is A 460 Bb V8 Ok For A Everyday Car Or Will It Drink More Then A 351?

I Want To Swap My 302 For A 460 And I Wanna Be Sure I Can Use My Car To Work And All Still?

And Can I Keep My C4 Auto Or Will That Need To Be Changed To?

And Will I Need A Engineer Cretificate If A Change My Engine From A 302 To 460? To Keep It Road Worthy? Im From Melb So Any Help Would Be Great Thanks

Re: Is 460 Ok 4 Everyday?

You will need an engineers certificate in Vic if the engine wasn't an original fitment option.

It will undoubtedly be thirstier (as a result of fuel/air/capacity ratios) unless you want to run some weedy carb on it that will make it perform worse than the 302.

The C4 will be marginal but ok if you can find an adaptor plate.

Cheers
Russ

Hey Russ What Other Type Of Autos Will Work With The 460bb Then? I Will Use The Right Sized Carby Too But Not Sure Bout The Cost Of An Engineer Certificate?

find a original big block C6 .. it will last a shyte load longer than a c4.

An engineers certificate won't be cheap as there are a number of tests that need to be done. There have been a couple of threads about this so a little bit of searching will give a lot of information!

enginners dont like bigblocks in xr-xy series falcs, due to the weight(go figure) xa-xc will give you less hassles, they are also designed for more weight at the front...dont even waste your time on a c4,or money, get a c6...

cheers,phil.

Running it on straight LPG will help getting an engineers no end in VIC. If its a post pollution car its near impossible to get one registered on petrol, but it can be done.

Just like a Tsunami.

roll Re: Is 460 Ok 4 Everyday?

I am runnin' a pretty well worked 351 in a Ftruck which uses a little more fuel than some. My mate has a 460 with a little head work & mild cam in a Ftruck. It uses about the same as me in traffic & a little less out on the open road due to it's superior low down torque.
I agree with the C6 auto option as well.

Go the F-Trucks

Re: Is 460 Ok 4 Everyday?

460 is grouse for everyday, ive got a F350 Long wheel base, which i use as a taxi truck, it weighs 3100kgs unloaded and up 2 8100kgs!!! fully loaded, its got a rebuilt and strengthend c6 behind it and it all works perfectly all day every day. its on dual fuel and gets surprisingly good fuel economy for gas. 100 litres of gas will get me almost 300ks, so roughly 35 bucks a tank. I rekon its pretty good considering the 850 holley carb, twin highrise mixers and twin converters.
