Hello. I have a 79 f 150 with a 460 under the hood. Does anyone have any idea what the initial timing is supposed to be set at? I got it a 10 degrees btdc now. Someone at one time told me 13 degrees but I dont know. Also, does an MSD multiple spark box help at all for throttle response? Does it affect where timing should be set? Thanks.

I do belive that some of that is dependant on altitude. I am at 4,500 and I set mine at ten. I then had to back it off a little because my compression is to high and it pings like a sunof a gun. but when I turned the crank over to ten, then droped the distibuter in and she fired right up.

Msd does give better throttle response.It is most benefit below 3000rpm with the multiple sparks.

best to set it at 3000rpm,,,should be hitting full advance 38deg btdc ,
