I have a 1970 Thunderjet 429, had it rebuilt and now running it in my 79 Bronco. Problem is, I want to upgrade this engine to a serpentine belt system, but my crank pulley is 3 bolt.

So my question, is it possible to take a neutral balanced 429-460 damper, and install it, then just bolt on the 4 bolt pulley?

All 460 dampers are zero balanced.

Good to know, I wasn't sure if the balancing all took place in the flywheel or both flywheel and damper.

What years where 460's balanced internally vs externally?

1978 & earlier are internal balance, while 1979 & up are external balance.

The balncing is done at the flexplate and the spacer/sleeve between the balancer and the timing cover; the external balance flex plate has a weight welded to it while the external balance spacer has a "hatchet weight" swinging from it. The internal balance engines have niether weights.

The internal balance crankshaft will not readily drop into an external balance (D9TE-AB casting) cylinder block.
