Replacement of heads and intake manifold has gone well. Now I'm trying to replace distributor. It was marked so that I can return it to the same position and engine has not been rotated. Distributor will not fully seat in proper position. I suspect I need to rotate the oil pump shaft. How do I do this?
(Chevys are slotted so a screwdriver works well. The bottom shaft of the distributor has a six sided cavity.)

I used a 5/16" socket on a 6" extension and was able to rotate the oil pump shaft just enough to enable the distributor to fully seat. I should have thought about that before posting to the forum but maybe it will help the next guy!
