i have a 78 f150 with a 351m, i want to do a 460 swap but i don't know what year for the EFI 460 is best. or does it matter which year? does anyone know what year i should get the engine from? it has to be fuel injected.
460FI engines were offered in F250 trucks from 1988 through the end of production. I don't know a great deal about them but can offer the following:
There seems to be two slightly differing versions, those being 1988-1992 version and the 1993 & up version.
1988-92
Slightly dished pistons
E7TE head with a small 2.00" intake valve
1993 & up
Notably dished pistons
F3TE head with the standard 460 2.09" intake valve
The smaller valve in the E7TE heads leaves a bit to be desired in the power department, but proper porting and installation of the regular size intake valve (or bigger) can help substantially. Of course, the same is true with the F3TE casting (porting). Some people like to use the shallow dished 88-92 pistons with the later (and slightly smaller combustion chamber) F3TE castings so as to raise compression.
All the fuelie 460's use hypereutectic pistons and have a "straight-up" roller style timing chain.
Hi there, I am after a complete injection system off a factory 460 van, truck or motor home. Anyone could give me an e,mail address of an Auto wreckers that would sell whole set up. injectors and rails, sensors, wiring and loom to ECU.
I live in New Zealand our wreckers don't stock this good stuff.
If any help or Ideas would be great.

uh...KillerMe, I thnk you had better sit down beofre you read this.
Because we strip down the EFI 460's and rebuild/resel them as longblocks, we ended up with a pile of factory EFI systems that were just sitting around and gathering dust. Complete systems with the factory aluminum intake, throttle body, fuel rails, injectors, electronics, etc. We had a minimum of 8 compete systems.
And they have all been recently thrown away in the trash dumpster.
if you really want efi, you can get a mass air conversion kit, modify a carb intake for injectors, get a big mass air meter, put in your sensors, and if you use good aftermarket heads like trick flow streets or blue thunders youll end up with quite a bit more power than the stock efi stuff.
