hey guys trying to find out some information about an engine i am about to rebuild.

Block- D1VE-AA 16
Waterpump D5VE-AA
Heads D2VE-AA
Intake 2DOVE-9425B f4 2A11

any help on what this motors orig. home was? lol

inside where the flywheel goes it is stamped 460-1 18 on the end of the block. so i know it a 460 lol

Sometimes its tricky to find what the engine was in originally as the casting on the blocks and heads etc dont always tell what vehicle the engine came from because the same blocks and heads may have been used in numerous vehicles.

If you can find id tags on the trans or a tag that may have been under the coil fastening bolt then they can be more help. Does it have an id sticker on one of the rocker cover faces.

Paul Kane our resident expert on these engines may have some more clues to its identity.

would the 4 bolt main cap identify it as a 429 CJ.?? anyone provide info on 2 bolt and 4 bolt mains and the difference?

It doesnt have CJ head casting numbers so it is probably not a CJ but it could be a police interceptor motor if it has 4bolt mains. They had special performance heads on the PI motors too. CJ's had the head casting DOOE-R.

Heres a link to a PI thread on these forums. If Paul logs in at some stage then he is a wiz at the decoding.

Hello Craig,

The engine appears to be from a 1972 Production run as indicated by some markings on the cylinder heads, intake manifold, and the images of the block.

For the most part, all 1971-1978 short blocks are the same, however the single year, 1972 cylinder heads are not desirable for a high performance naturally aspirated engine and should be replaced. D3VE-A2A heads are the easiest and most direct replacement and good for at least 400 hp or more depending on combo.

NOW I"M STUMPED< broke down the rest of the engine and look what i found on the pistons

any ideas now paul?
