Fuel pump woes....

Hi there, just wondering if anyone here can tell me if the fuel pump for a 460 is the same as a clevo, or windsor....?

Just built a new 460, and fit it in my 83 F250 today, and figured since it was a runner, pump should be ok, but ol murphys law stepped in and taught me for being a scrooge. Am in a bit of a hurry to get it running, as I need the truck for work on tuesday. Am in brisbane.

Re: Fuel pump woes....

347stroker,I built a wicked 400 for my 78Bronco and had to run a whole new fuel system. The stock stuff was just too small, there's not much aftermarket mechanical fuel pump's for a 400 so I went electric with all Aeroquip fitting's.

Re: Fuel pump woes....

You are spot on there, just got back from a bit of a blast, got it out on the highway, 6200 in first, hit second and 4400rpm it all went very flat, all out of fuel. Looks like some more dollars to spend, pump will handle it, just the fuel lines from tank to pump.
Should have it all done by sunday, give it another run. Will keep you posted.
By the way, nice pics, looks like a pretty tough truck

Re: Fuel pump woes....

One more thing I increased the size of my fuel line's quite a bit.I have a -10(5/8")going from the tank to the pump, then a -8(1/2")going from the pump to the regulator and a -6(3/8")from the regulator to the carb.Mine was doing the same with the stock mechanical pump,I could pull to 6000rpm in 1st but once in 2nd it would peter out in the 4000rpm range.I also installed high flow needle and seat's in my carb so I can keep the bowl's filled faster.

Re: Fuel pump woes....

Does yours try to run its self off the road, once the secondarys open in second. Mine seems to try and veer left once it comes on cam.
Kind of think its a culmination of torque steer through the leaves, and chassis twist.
I have not had enough time to check out whats going on yet, but christ its some fun to drive.

Re: Fuel pump woes....

No,mine is coil sprung in the front. If you just nail it from a stop you might have to correct the steering a little but that's all.
