I've recently purchased a new set of Ford Motorsport aluminuim 'Cobra Jet' heads for my big block. They are the 72cc Chambers with 2.25" inlets, double valve spring, titanium retainers.
I'm intereseted to know if anyone has experience or reccommendations on valve train and general engine hardware set up.
At the moment I'm considering the Yella Terra single shaft mount roller rockers, hyd Cam (234 / 244 Dur & .050"), relatively stock (but high quality component) bottom end.
I allready have a Mildon single idler gear drive, MSD Pro billit dizzy with 6AL ignition.
At the moment I'm running an Edelbrock performer duel plane inlet. I was considering a single plane (torker)
I'm aiming for 500-550 hp (flywheel) Car is street driven, however I'd like to play on the strip a little.

Why not have a look at some of the crate motors and use them as a guide for your buildup...
You will have to get an intake with the large intake ports to match the heads..I dont believe the performer or toker will suit..
You will have to go with a large port stealth for a dual plane or for single plane,a victor to match the ports at the heads.

Good point, I've got some of those crate engine specs.
The 'Cobra Jet' heads run the same port size and are compatible with Edelbrock (or std) inlet manifolds.
Jeez, I don't know what to be more suprised about, that a 2 year old thread was uncovered, or it was actually 2 years ago I bought those heads and only just gotten the motor in!!
Motor is done and in. I've only run it for a few hundred K's and changed the oil on the weekend. It looks, sounds, feels awesome. Short story:
- Block bored (.030"), honed, decked .030" chemi-cleaned etc.
- KB Hyper forged pistons, 15cc chambers resulting in 11.1 (heads ended up at 69cc)
- Stock rods re-sized ARP bolts
- Stock crank ground 10 / 10 all balanced
- Main stud kit and girdle
- Mildon signle idler gear drive
- Ford Racing C460 Hyd. cam (.595" in. - .614" ex. lift 244 / 254 duration)
- Ford Raing cobra jet heads ported, flowed, cc's, port matched, stainless valves, springs to suit
- Crane gold series rollers
- Edelbrock Torker 11 intake
- 850 annual discharge holley
- MSD pro-billet dizzy with 6AL ignition (6300 rpm soft chip limiter)
- Very shinny cromed alloy Ford Racing rocker covers!!
Plus all the other drama's associated with engine re-build.
Starts, runs, feels very nice. Benchmarking other combo's and the dyno 2000 simulation suggests somewhere in the 530hp range. Will tune carb / ignition on chassis dyno once it run in a little more.

i just had to bring this back.where did you get the girdle from.my heads turned up today.did you use original headbolts, did you have any valve to piston clearance issues or is this problem only related to the scj heads. do you acctually know how much lighter the heads are over the std castiron ones. there is about 5 pages of 429/460 tech if tou change the forum settings horespower sounds good to will it run on pump fuel i am building a 521 cube mtr and am looking for this sort of power any do's and dont's
