stroking a 429-460

hello all, I have a 429 block with a 4.400 bore. I want to stroke it 4.140-4.500, all I can find are rotating assy. with 030 and 080 over bore kits. I really don't want to bore again any ideas ? it will be in a mud-bogger and see maybe 6300 to 6500 rpm. would like forged pistons and rods. can anybody help

thanks Andy Heard

cool Re: stroking a 429-460

Hello Andy and welcome, :)

There are a few manufacturer's that offer shelf pistons in a 0.040" overbore size. One of them is Keith Black forged pistons, and there are others such as Diamond which offers a pricier (and nicer) piston in any size you want.

Before you purchase pistons, you should really check out the condition of the bores in your cylinder block and make sure they are still true and round at 0.040". Otherwise, you may buy a set of pistons only to have the machine shop tell you that you need an overbore to 0.060", and so have your parts such as your cylinder block evaluated before you purchase anything.

Lastly, stroker kits purchaed as a set (crank, rods, pistons, rings, and bearings) usually offer some savings as opposed to purchaseing seperately. Let me know if you need a referral to a reputable stroker dealer who can get you pistons in any bore you wish with a stroker kit.

Paul

Both of the above are colleagues of mine tha will provide good service, and either can put together a kit to your specs. You can tell them that Paul Kane sent you. Feel free to shop with both of them but please don't play them back-and-forth with a price war thingy.

Paul
