1964 efi swap (help please)

Hello everyone,

I have a 1964 1/4 mustang and a 1986 5.0L GT hatchback. my project is to put the 5.0 engine and trans (computer, power steering, etc.) into the 1964 (fuel injected). my questions are...

1) will all the accessories (power steering, a/c, alternator, etc fit in the engine bay?)
2) will the hood shut with the complete set up?
3) will i still need a front sump oil pick up pan?
4) is wiring difficult? and will i need a new harness?
5) will i need a new front suspension? (like a mustang 2 front end)
6) do i need a new custom drive shaft?
7) can i use the 8.8 rear end and will it fit?
8) can i adapt the front brakes to the 64 mustang?
9) is the tranny crossmember the same or do i need anew one?
10) can i use the steering column?

All your input is greatly appretiated. if i need anything else or if you recommend something please do so.

Ryan

Re: 1964 efi swap (help please)

1. yes 2. Depends on intake system- stock Ford...probably. 3. No the front sump will not work- which leads to> The dipstick is in the pan on a front sump, so you'll need to get the cover with the dipstick hole in it and a dipstick. 4. Wiring shouldn't be bad- there's alot of conversion harnesses out there. 5. No- Only if you desire. 6. You didn't specify trans type. You may need to shorten or have one made. 7. Yes but with alot of work. Unless you have welding skills and know how to set up pinion angles, I'd for go that. 8. Fatman fab make a strut system that will allow it but your 86 brakes are small. To me it wouldn't be cost effective. 9. New- look at Mustangs Unlimited 10. Not worth the effort to me. There is no guarantee that anything will line up right. If you want tilt there's after market options. One thing else on this, your steering shaft attaches from the steering wheel to the steering box. there's no rag joint or collapsing column. Good Luck
