confused 1966 Steering Box

Hello folks,
My son and I are about to install a 302 and T5 in his 66 Mustang coupe. I being a parent decided to buy a front disc brake kit from SSBC and go through the front end for safety reasons. I noticed the steering box had a slight bind but an adjustment took care of this...I opened up the box anyways and was surprised to see very little grease inside, very little on the bearings.
Question #1. Should there be alot of grease in the box?
Thanks
