The first generation Mustangs (64 1/2-70) are a work of art. I like the '67 & '68s fastbacks the best with the '69 Sportsroof/Mach I's running a very close second. I had a '68 Coupe a few years ago. If Ford doesn't get the 2003/04 right, which I'm hoping they do, my next one will be a '67 or '68 GT 4 speed fastback.
First car I ever owned....1968 GT Fastback. Bought it in pieces when I was 15...finished rebuilding when I was 17. LOVED that beast.....wish I still had it today...along with my 66 GT ragtop.... Those were the days.....

I love the Fords from the 60's. Fairlanes, Torinos, Galaxies, Falcons, Thunderbirds and Mustangs all of them. Between myself and my high school friends, we have had at one time, pretty much one or more of each. I wish Ford would bring back a true hardtop, I think they're the nicest looking cars.

you would be correct!
i'm on my second 1966 mustang coupe! i used to have this CHERRY charcoal (emberglo/parchment interior decor group) coupe that was blasted by a drunk driver, while PARKED no less! :(
that engine, along with a few of the interior items, survives in my latest '66 coupe. i got this car courtesy of my father, who was the original owner. it's a basic coupe with few options (larger rear-view mirror, remote side mirror, seat belt light).
it's currently undergoing a resto to GT specs. i've already got the interior decor group package complete, including console and rally pac. i still have to rebuild the engine (already have headers, hi-rise intake, correct holley 4-bbl carb, cam), upgrade the rear to 9" posi, and swap my t10 for a t5, plus install the r-model apron.
the 64 1/2-66 pony is THE single-most beautiful car i have ever laid my eyes upon IMHO.
if i had another car to buy though, i would get myself a '68 j-code fastback. the '67-68 fastbacks look better than the earlier versions i think.
dmark101,
Sorry to hear your about your first '66 being totaled. Sounds like the second one's going to be real nice though. Thanks for the response, I'm really want to get an older Mustang bad. It's been quite awhile since I had my '68 but I'm really starting to miss it. I can't find a single fault with any older Stang (64 1/2-70), I just love the '67-'68 fastbacks the best. Believe me, any one of them would be fine( o.k I do want a V8) but i'm not too picky, I'd take an A,C,D,F,G,H,J,K,M,R,S,Q,W, or Z code. I have to say the BOSS 302 & 429's, 427, and 428's are just a dream though, a little out of my price range in the condition I want. I agree with you, a real nice J-code 4 speed '68 fastback would be perfect. I'd even settle for it if it wasn't a GT. Maybe even consider it if it had a C4.
Yep, I definitely have to agree. When I was 16 bought myself a 67 Mustang coupe 200ci straight six. Got it for $350 in1985, not a bad price at all. The only thing wrong with it was rust. Fixxed that, had it ready for a paint job. Just a week later I went heads on with a pine tree and lost. Next car 66 coupe with a 289 , worked on it a little and sold it. But my most favorite, most love or lust, is the 68 Shelby GT500KR convertible with a 428SCJ, paint job dark blue. I just lust after that car.

My first car was a 67 Mustang Coupe, 2nd one was a 67 Cougar XR-7, 3rd one was a 66 Mustang Coupe. Why did I get rid of these cars for ? I know why, because I'm stupid, stupid, stupid.
I'm glad to hear that the 67 & 68 Fastbacks are getting more popular. I am currently restoring a 67 in the garage. Its a 289-4V, 4 speed toploader, true duals with the "GT" rear valence, lots and lots of brand spanking new parts (OUCH!!). Original color is Burnt Amber. Dont like it but changing it would kill value. Lots of fun and it goes like he**!.
Rick..
