Hi all (again)

Still working on the Kid's 'Project' Car.
Keep having to explain to him that when a car sits for
four years - parts malfunction - one right after the other.
<end whining>

Question: (no laughing) I can't remember how 'hot' the engine compartment gets. This morning - early I was tweaking the choke and after it all warmed up everything
was very hot to the touch.
The carb, (couldn't rest your hand on it HOT) air cleaner, even the firewall braces.
No exhaust leaks - Just finished redoing that.
Oil Good. Coolant level good.
Outside temp was 74°F / 24°C.
Hood was up the whole time.
I remember things getting hot after driving but idling like that?
Just bought a temp gage this afternoon so...

Did you check to see if the radiator core was getting very hot as well? If the core is alot cooler it could be an indication that the radiator is blocked up after its four years off the road.

Beyond that just check the usual favourite- the thermostat, also if its a 351 Cleveland make sure the flow restrictor plate is still in situ under the thermostat.
