Can someone offer advice on this problem. I have a 1965 Mustang which was originally Poppy Red. I would like to return it to this colour, but no one seems to be able to mix paint according to the Ford USA codes. I have, for example, the DuPont code and the PPG code but they don’t (apparently) make much sense locally. I have tried Ford US code 3 but this turned out to be red not the orange-red I’m after. Any advice appreciated.

If PPG cant help and they generally dont, your best bet will be to take a sample from somewhere on the car and go from there. (If this is possible).
PPG bought out Deitzler who were the original paint makers for Mustang (or so I'm told), and having tried unsucessfully to get help or info from them for two cars now I sympathise with you.

Try De Beer or Protec.
They are very good with thier colours. Knowing where your from may help to give sound advice.
