overheating

I have 2 67 Mustangs one with a 289 and one with a 302 both have 351 D9O3 351 4V Winsor heads. Now both have heating problems Both have alum. radiators, big fans, and shrouds.
I remfered that back in the day Ford said to use 289 head gaskets with this combo. I have a head off and I bought a 289 gasket, comparing them I can see no difference????? Help any answers???
