57 T-Bird direction signals lever on steering column

On my 57 T-Bird, the direction signal lever on the steering column is la little loose so, I have to hold it in place in order to have it work. It's not real loose but just enough to prevent it from making contact on it's own either up or down. Can it be tightened? Can I have access to it by removing the steering wheel or does more have to be removed? The service manual on this is worthless.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

Pull the wheel off. It's right there. It's broken. you have to replace it. If you can.

If I remember right, on the older vehicles, the lever itself actually screwed in.
