What engine do you have ? If it is 312 it is lime green. If it is a 292 it is yellow.

Re: Stock Engine Color of '55 T-bird

Actually good thing you checked back so soon. If you have a 55 you will have a 292.
312 didn't come out till 56. The 292 is a yellow - red color. Closer to red but not red.
It is very hard to tell those engins apart. The exhaust manifolds are differant on some.
The 292 will have a front cross over from manifold to manifold. The 312 will have no cross over. Yes the 312 was lime green. Had a little blue in it but mostly green. Very
strange color. It's been many years since i had a 312. hard to remember. I think the 312
had down swept exhaust manifold with rear exit. Every time you drove over water the
manifold would crack at the exit. i think the 292 had up swept manifolds with right rear
exit and left was center exit. I think.

Re: Stock Engine Color of '55 T-bird

The car does not have crossover exhaust. Its possible the engine is not stock to the 55. It was represented to be a 312 in engine. So, if I were to restore (paint the engine block etc.) should I use the color of the year engine (55) or the color of the 312 engine 56?

Exclamation Re: Stock Engine Color of '55 T-bird

As far as I know, from the info I have and pictures I've seen, 1955-57 T-Bird Engines (Y-Block) were all Red. Color coding according to size didn't come until 1958.

The 292 was actually an Orange colour like GM's 283/327.
