Ok guys clock my truck during this test (unofficially did it with a stop watch) and wanted to know what you all think if it is good for the truck or on the slow side. Did three runs each with improvements.
1. 14.99 Still cold engine not fully operating temp.
2. 14.83 Going up a slight hill
3. 12.53 my best time
The truck
1972 F250 390 .030 over (piston unknown) average of a 115 psi a cylinder (100 lowest 125 highest) edelbrock performance manifold, edelbrock 600 CFM Carb,(cam unknown) Standard FE heads,truck weight 5,800 lb, 4.10 gearing, 4 speed manual, with 33x12.5 R16.5 tires.
So what does everyone think The good the bad or the ugly (good,ok,bad) what are cheap ways to shorten this time?

Hi, I think that I would want no less than 150 lbs compression with that engine. In my day, timing was only done in the 1/4 mile at the drag strip. I took my Galaxie once, [slowest car that I ever ran] and it was so slow, that it had to be timed with a Sun Dial.

Yeah they are a little low but it runs good thinking about rebuilding and put some high comp pistons in and maybe a supercharger lol thats a lot of money for one

Sounds like the cam ain't degreed in right, or your timing is way retarted. You shoud have a minimum of 150-160. 180 would be better.

that is pretty slow. Mind you you are pushing a lot of weight. I'd say average. Not bad.
If your averaging 100 psi there is something wrong. Take it to the track. Your reaction time on your stop watch will never be the same or accurate. you will never get the same reading twice.

Still yet with 4.10:1 in the rear, it should do better than that.

seems slow to me, that truck should be pulling 60 in around 10 sec IMO. How does it run; does it have good passing power? Can you spin the tires at will? With the mods listed it should be a peppy engine.
