Finally blew a head gasket in the 64' F100 with original 223 in it. While i have it apart i'd like to clean-up the header and re-spray with high-heat, question is, what color where they?

While we're at it i may as well re-paint the valve cover, mine is a reddish-orange, is that original?

Going to have the machine shop re-seat the valves while they have it, anything else i should be doing to my motor while the head is off?

i am not sure if you are asking about the color for the head or header,(exaust manifold).

the exaust manifold was not painted from the factory, they were left with the cast iron finish, the head was painted black, but who know's what color a PO could have painted it. the orange- red color is correct for the valve cover

At a minmium you should have the head resurfaced to insure you dont blow another gasket because the head was warped. if the shop is not going to do a complete valve job.... replace all the valves and seats, guides springs etc, you should have them replace the valve stem seals.
