Ford F100

I was wondering if anybody knew when ford stop putting the gas tank behind the seat ?I have a ford f-100 1970 and the tank is behind the seat but a old timer at my work told me that they stop doing that in 1969 so my truck may possibly be a 69 an not a 70 can any one help.....

I believe it was 73 or 74. 1970 model had the tank behind the seat.

After researching, I found that 1972 was the last year of the in cab gas tank.

Your research is wrong.


1977 ( Mid Year) was the last year you could get 3 fuel tanks.


Behind the seat, Mid-ship and rear main.

Look in the 1977 Owners manual

For further proof.

We not talking about 3 fuel tanks, that's an option. We're talking Ford standard fuel tank behind the seat...

A standard 1973 F-100 with a single tank, is not located behind the seat.

I am not talking HAVING 3 tanks either.
That was a FYI.

The last year for an IN CAB Tank was up to MID 1977 as per the chart above

Part number D3TZ-9002-G 18.0 gallons (In Cab)

4th from bottom application.
