AU bumper repairs..

Okay... its pretty unusual that I hit anything.... but I was coming out of a maccas drive through (read: fast food is bad for cars as well) and was attempting to do a U-turn.
Now, this driveway was elevated so that cars can drive underneath it and at the end it turns left. For whatever reason, they have exceptionally large gutters on it. So I turn around the driveway to the left and deliberately stick to the right hand side (so I can hook around with enough space) and... *scrape*

The scratch is really bad and is probably the width of your palm but 15cms or so...

How much would it cost to sand that our and repaint it? Can that work?

What alternatives are there?

I would have cried.
How deep is it? Because BOG doesn't like to stick to plastic much.
If it is not that deep, they can sand it and paint for around the $150-$200,
because they have to blend your colour in and colour match.

Re: AU bumper repairs..

its pretty deep in some areas..

if you sand it well i feel that it might not be noticable if you blend the paint in and all...

Money is a bit tight so I was hoping to either a) put it off for a bit or b) find a cheap alternative.

A potential c) get a new c2r or xr bumper would be way down the line..

Re: AU bumper repairs..

A plastic welder will be able to repair that for you. Shouldn't cost too much either.

Re: AU bumper repairs..

Is the colour metallic?? If it is it can sometimes be very hard to get a good colour match even for a professional paint shop.

With scratching its not worth getting the bumper plastic welded. Clean it throughly with soapy water then sand it back a little the feather the edges. Then use flexible filler designed for plastic repairs, a good brand is Dominion. Normal bog can be used but it will flake or crack if the bumper cops a hit anywhere because it can't flex.

Re: AU bumper repairs..

Is it on the underside of the bumper? If so, just do what i did. Mask the top of the bumper up, get a can of the tar stuff for the underside of a car and paint the bottom part of the bar with that.
