Hi was wondering if any of you proud ford lovers out there could tell me the best product for polishing up a black with slight blue pearl paint on my xr8 au ii. nice colour but i have found it very hard to get swirl marks out of . i have been using shell polish which brings up the shine but just can not get rid of the marks.
thanks very much
adrian
yep i have a black AU2, and use maguirs products, you get what you pay for!! the polish (the step 2 one, cant remember the name, but it has step 2 written on the bottle) is the best, the wax (could premium, or gold or something) is good to, but prepare to spend hours taking it off!
all my maguirs gear cost me around $150 (for EVERYTHING!) but that was 18 months ago and its still going, and looking great!

I have just had my car polished in a panel shop with cutting compund then polished with their stuff (I don't know what it is but it is in a black bottle) and then I used Mothers Pure Canubra Wax which was excellent, brought a really deep shine.. Tin is about $40.

I'm in the same position, I bought an AUII silhouette Fairmont Ghia with some rather bad swirl marks. I have asked around and have been told that the best way to get rid of swirl marks at home is to use scratchX (made by Meguiars) followed by a good polish and wax (I've got myself some Gold Class wax, which I've also been told is good). I'm going to do the car this weekend, and I'll let you know how it goes.
I've been told that if scratchX doesn't work, you need to find yourself a reputable detailer who knows their stuff, as they have access to more specialist products which work great in the right hands, but can really create a mess if used by amateurs (such as myself). :D
yeah gekko if you dont know what you are doing with that stuff you can literally cut through your paint!! (they use an electric buffer) even in the right hands it should only be done when neccessary (eventually it will wear down the paint).
it comes in handy having a detailer in the family

I didn't get Gold Class stuff as it was just too much but the other stuff has brought it up a treat.. it looked pretty dodgy before but now it's shiny as. It took car of all the ring marks on the passenger door and all the marks in the doorhandle recess. they really stood out on the white car too, but now they are gone...
and bloody hell was i rooted after all that...
