I saw some Black wax and polish and was wondering if it would be of benifit in hiding small scratches or if it was just hype.

It's supposed to work really well as long as your car is close to the color of the wax

IMO, will it hide the scrathces? Maybe. Will it make them magically disappear? Nope. Well, if you click your heels together 3 times maybe, but you'll probably just end up back in the middle of Kansas.

Small scratches can be touched up fairly easily with some very light wetsanding and color match paint with a dash of clearcoat and an orbital buffer.

The wax you bought should lower the appearance of the scratches. But there's no substitute for a good buff job. But don't trust just anyone! It's easier than anyone thinks to ruin a good clear coat job.
