I'm gonna be doing my bumpers soon and the part behind the license plate. And yes I'm gonna use spray cans, I reckon they're easier. Anybody have an idea of how cans I should have of primer/colour/top coat to do a good job?

re: ...

Well i had some probs doing the back panel behind the number plate... first up we seperated the 2 sections and cleaned out all the silicon used to join em together.. try using a solvent or thinnner of some sort...

cleaned em all down, took the badges out (easy to do and put back)... cleaned all the dust and shit out... and then...

sprayed white paint straight on each section ... and it stuffed up :( had spots everywhere and wouldnt take... so we sanded it back after it was dried, put some primer on, then white paint and away it went... looks sweet as... ill get a piccy sometime... looks good if done properly

Painting Bumpers

In the summer holidays i painted my bumpers. They were grey but now white. Be careful with metalic colours because it would be harder to match, because my car was white it was easy. It took me about a week to do it though, both the bumpers and i didnt drive my car in that time. I used cans and it turned out better than i expected. I taped the areas around the bumpers, and sanded them alot. Make sure u sand heaps to get them smooth. Also on the back bumper there is ledge which is hard to paint. All up it cost me around $80, not bad but be careful when pulling off tape not to peel paint. Make sure u use lots of plastic primer and get it in the gaps.
Ive had some peeling issues but that was from my lazyness. It made my car look ten times better though.

Bumpers

The answer to your actual question. Get them from wreckers unless you intend to spend alot of time doing it. Takes ages, and it will probly wear away fast. Mine are good but i know they will probably turn crap after awhile.

Re: Bumpers

I sprayed my GL bumpers white... i started with the front and finished with the back. You can see how I educated myself in the fine art of spray painting as the back looks perfect whereas the front is shit. I didnt use enuf primer and its peeling away at the edges. Im going too pay the $200 and get it sprayed professionally. :)
