quite often the colour you want will be dictated by cost. remember that if it is a total colour change you have to strip the car(brings cost down, by that i mean strip doors light etc) decide if the trim will match the new colour,(another expense) and remember that a cheap job is just that, also are there repairs needed, there is no point painting over dents. I have been painting 20 years mate there is no substitute for quality the first time around, but realistically you own the car you need to decide what u want not what makes others happy. Good luck.

I have to agree with pup's comments, my EB2 Fairmont was originally white, got it resprayed in BMW M3 Estoril Blue. However because its such a new and exclusive colour, the panel beater had to mix his own paints to try and match a colour sample he had. Bottom line... My car ain't Estoril Blue!!!

Also I'm very pissed with the quality, already been back once to get stuff fixed but now I'm just going to go somewhere else. The paint is peeling in some areas, it's a bloody nightmare and sometimes I regret getting it done.

pup is right... Once you wanna change colours you gotta worry about engine bay... inside the doors... etc...

I resprayed my EF to the darkest green in the BWM catelog and didn't worry about engine bay and inside doors because the stock colour was heritage green and no one can tell the difference. Plus i added heaps of pearl through it.

Respray it white... But add HEAPS of gold pearl through it i reckon! That way you don't really have to worry about engine bay, etc

at the moment my car is the Quartz colour and quite frankly the paint on the car is Shit. its all crap not glossy and just crap doesnt look good at all. that is the reason i am getting it resprayed.

so if i go for another colour respray does that mean they will have to take out the engine and all the doors and things like that so they can get into all parts of the car.??

ill have to see what the price of the job is then and see what happens, but thanks for the help pup and all you other guys.

Cheers Damien

If you want the paint to look better, maybe a good cut and polish is all it needs. That can do wonders to how the paint looks and is heaps cheaper compared to getting a respray.

G'day Damien
yes mate if u want to do the full colour change, rip the motor out, strip the doors, exterior trim, interior trim door rubbers, weather strips belt moulds, mudflaps, lights, indicators , taillights, door handles, wipers, wiper squirtes, radiatior, aircon rad, radio ariel, boot garnish front and rear bumpers, petrol flap mirrors.
All this seems extensive but it can save you up to a thousand dollars on the quote, make sure you get a price that excludes remove and refit or negotiate with the painter, bugger it pm me with contact details and i'll have a chat to you about the job if u r serious. Also consider if u want to colour code the mirrors exterior trim bumpers as well. Another alternative is to satin black the engine bay that way u can leave the motor in and just remove the bolt on bits to the engine bay, wash it down with some wax and grease remover scuff it with some green scotchbrite and satin black it with a spray can. Its cheap quick and looks good. Also think about what your favourite colour is and if it will translate to your car. A good painter can match almost any colour.
