I want to take the body kit off my car and return it to a stock looking sleeper. The rear bar is made of fiberglass and fits over the stock bar. It has been glued on with the same type of glue they use to put windscreens in. Its really stuck solid. I'd like to not damage anything because the fiberglass bit I will beable to sell and the stock bar was renewed and has good paint.

Would heating it soften it and perhaps melt it?

by glue do you mean body silastic?

Yep. Very much like the stuff they glue windscreens in with but a little harder.

you need to slice it with a blade
it is heat and slovent resistant

have you pulled the bar off to have a look behind it??

Sometimes they use a urethane glue (they did with a car I had a kit put on), as it is very strong. If you hit something, the urethate holds it to the panel and lets the fiberglass crack. If they have, its easier all round to get another bumper.

I've used fishing line to remove badges and stuff, as it didn't mark the paint. But that might work if they used silastic. Not if they used the urethane stuff.

If its black its most probably Sikaflex.. Sorry to say mate but good luck getting that off when its dry!!..

If it's urethane its there to stay, the only way to get it off is with a sharp blade and you will more than likly take the paint off aswell.

urethane is basically impossible to remove... we got sum, our mate is a windscreen fitter... and he gave us a tube...

Instead of removing the bodykit you my as well exchange the panels and sell the bumpers as bodykit ... prolly be much easier ...

Any of the glues used to fix bodykit panels to original panels are next to impossible to remove once dry ... especially dry for several years.

I have removed XR bonnet vents which were glued to my bonnet ... i used a very sharp knive and lotsa patience ... but it left some ugly marks on the bonnet in terms off ... the glue burns itself into the paint and leaves marks behind ... anotehr thing for you to consider
