My XY leaks water under the dash when it rains. it drips on my foot while driving which is like chinese water torture.... Ive heard this is a common problem with that series any advice on the cause, cures?

I think know where its coming from...

Firstly make sure its not your windscreen thats leaking... if its fine then:

The plenum chamber (the chamber between the windscreen and the bonnet which has a grille covering it) has the air intakes for the vents in the car. Crud tends to consolidate here, and then gets wet... and gets wet.. then rusts out the bottom of the plenum chamber. When it rains then, water goes into the plenum as it always does, but instead of running out the corner drains which are probably a bit blocked by leafes etc, it runs out the new rust hole above your pedal box. :(

To fix it ive been told you have to undo the tack welds holding the panel above the plenum, then do a cut-n-shut. Not an easy task..

You willhave a hole in the plenum chamber near the RH footwell vent. To see exactly where, crawl underneath dash (helps if you are small!), and remove vent, then check area with a torch. If you can't see anything, get a mate to trickle water into your scuttle panel while you look.

Unfortunately, not easy to fix properly! You will probably need to cut away the upper cover for the plenum, put new metal in, then reweld it. Not a job for the faint hearted!

cheers guys. sounds messy. will follow instructions & check for clogged airvents up top and if still leaking get a pro to fix the plenum when i have other rust removed.
