hi, id like to know if theres someone among us that knows about the paint/primers/basecoats used on the EA's, im looking at respraying the ghia and i want to use the same methods ford did back in 88. ive come to the conclusion it is what they called a 'prestige' paint as it is not metallic but has the clear coat and the colour is midnight blue. any info would be appreciated, brent
I dont know what brand of paints were used but it was probably a clear over base method. That just means that the actual colour is a basecoat which comes out dull. Then the two pak clear is applied over the top which brings out the colour and gives it a high gloss finish. It's pretty common in most panel shops because they usually don't have to buff the clear coat when it dries because it's shiny enough. Not many people use acrylic paint anymore.
