confused Rear View Mirror R&R

First time,
Can anyone give me some advice on the trick for removing and replaceing the outside rear view mirror on my '05 Super Duty? I have had the marker/turn signal lens broken. I have the complete "Black" housing w/lens attached. (New from my Ford Dealer) They said that the mirror, the glass part, has to come off first as to release the clips that hold on the housing/cover. I don't think that this matters but the mirror is 'Heated". This process should take about 5 minutes, but I don't want to break anything where the mirror mounts.
Tks.

Re: Rear View Mirror R&R

OE's are cheap and they like to use glue where you won't generally see it - as on the reverse side of mirrors. Try fishing line or a thin but strong wire. If you plan to replace the housing you can always break whats not broken and have a better look at how to get the glass off the motor housing.
