Hey Guys,

i read in this thread: XF Exterior Trim Mouldings

that thinners can be used to remove the black paint that is used on the exterior moldings around the doors/windscreen. Mine has become all scratched and faded!.

So after the thinners are used will it be chrome..or a dull metal?

What sort of thinners should i use...is there a particular brand/product?

Will the door/body paint be damaged from the thinners?

Unless you steel wool the shine of your chrome it should not get damaged by the thinners, and then just polish the chrome as you would any other chrome on the car.

So what stuff should i use??

Just some thinners from the hardware store??
Or is there a special automotive type thinner i should use??

I was thinking of going down to repco and asking them but they might give me the wrong stuff...and i dont want my paint/trim damaged!

I had a quick look in repco and couldnt really see anything that was specifically for the purpose...

Anbody have a particular product they used successfully??

Take the trims off the car and use any normal paint stripper.
I am going to do this and get the trim powder coated black again, will cost under $30.
