Question Touch Up Paint

As I was cleaning my car I have noticed a few stone chips on the bonnet and some how above the drivers door . Anyway I went to Autobarn and asked for some touch up paint, basically they would mix me some based on my color code and have it for me in either a tin or spray. I just want to know would it be better to get in tin (using fine brush to apply it) or look around for an actual touch up pen (and would the dealers have anything like that)? Either way I really want to hide these chips asap. Also is there any special way of applying it? Or just basically dab a bit on, dry it with a hair dryer and maybe do another couple of coats? I have heard people applying the paint then using clear nail polish to bed it in there!!

In the past for small stone chips, I cleaned the area with wax and grease remover, and used a fine brush to apply it straight from the tin.

It seemed to work okay for me. I've even seen people at car shows using this method.

For large scratches, it was off to the panel shop.

The colour match in these bottles is usually not the best and the brush is too thick for small chips. Best off getting at matched by a panel beater and use a fine modeling brush to dab it on.

I use this on chips, but I apply it with the point of a pin instead of the brush as the brush is too thick. This seems to work quite effectively.

There is a really good article about this posted in a thread over at performance forums, you should go check it out. I think it was in the general discussion section.
