Well after years of planning, I've finally started on my project. Over the next few days I'll take delivery of a couple of bits and pieces that should give my car decent performance by the time they are installed.
Last night I won the bid for a new in box turbo made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which is used under the Greddy name. The specs are good - it will handle 30 psi with ease and flow 650 or more horsepower with the right application.
I originally wanted to track down a secondhand, series 5 RX-7 turbo which in theory would bring easy 14s or even 13s on a largely stock EA, plus responds well to hi-flowing down the track. But I found it downright impossible to get anything like that for my budget. So I decided that if I have to spend top dollar, I'll spend a bit extra to get something a rung above the usual T04s etc.
The other items I have are a stock manifold for research purposes, thanks to Wayne . And I bought a blow-off valve which is just for fun, when I can afford it I'll get a good plumback system.
Anyway, the big problem is that I can only utilise a fraction of the Greddy's potential without blowing things up. I have an EL transmission which will need to be modified before going in, and a 3" exhaust, engine rebuild etc etc will be in order. There isn't enough credit left in my account to fund a tank of fuel for the Laser.
So I'll be largely offline for a while working on my career as well as some casual work, and I'll keep you posted of updates.

i think a lot of us have been waiting for this one to happen Jack :)
i think you have numerous options with regards to installing the upgrades. you can get the turbo on the car, keeping the engine largely stock, and play with it until you have a good feel for how things work - if you kill an engine in the process, its not much of a loss (what, $200 for a stock EA bottom end?). then you can go the full big hp turbo rebuild later in the peice - stronger AU bottom end, AU head, etc...
also, you can always sell your manual for a bit of extra cash :)
at any rate, good luck with it all and make sure we get pictures at EVERY opportunity :)
