Re: 89 Ea Fairmont .....advice ?????
Have a good look at the engine after a thorough degreasing. I had a similar problem with oil leaks a while ago. I ripped into it with gay abandon, belts and hoses flying everywhere. Finally got down to the block face with the front titming cover off before it dawned on me - it was only the rocker cover gasket but the fan was blowing the oil all over the show pointing to the front timing case.
Bugger.....
One thing I did learn from this though, the expensive rubber gaskets for the rocker box aren't worth the extra expense. Use the cork one, and give it a good coating of gasket goo on the rocker cover side of the gasket ONLY.
I have been told by a usuably reliable source that these engines were originally designed to run without a gasket there. Due to the new hydraulic lash cap design, the thought was to glue the rocker cover down (with silastic type gasket goo) as there wouldn't be much need to take it on and off. LOL!
