Hey Guys,
I have a 90 model Ea 3.9ltr cfi 5 spd, I am planning to drop in a 94 model 4.0ltr
MPFI.
My question is, which ECU do i use to drive it?
I have a 90 model MPFI loom so the connectors will match up.
Does the 94 model have smartlock? , would i use the ecu from a 90 model
MPFI ?

Cheers on any feed back would be great.

94 model does have smart lock. If a manual mpfi pre-smartlock e.c.u. is needed for your conversion, I have an 89 manual e.c.u. out of a wagon I could sell.

Where abouts are you mate, i'm in Riverwood NSW.

About the Manual ECU..I had to replace mine a while back and i brought one from
a Automotive shop as reco.
It was out of an auto 3.9 CFI and it works fine, they told me there is another computer
type gadget under the dash that runs the auto thru the ECU.

I'm in melbourne, so it might be worthwhile to check prices up there as I don't know the price of shipping. I also don't have any idea what the computer's worth, I'll ring around some wreakers and knock a bit off their price for you if it'll work out cheaper or you can't find one up there.

Yeah the earlier models ran seperate trans computer for the auto, though I do not know if you can use a cfi computer with a mpfi (if someone elso knows, please let us know!!) but I highly doubt it. My mpfi computer was out of a 3.9lt (mpfi) though it still should be compatabale, again I am not 100% sure so double check.

As I haven't completed the conversion you plan on doing I don't know if I can be to much more help, however if you have any more questions I'll do my best to answer them, hopefully others will to.

Also double check that the loom will connect to the computer if you haven't already done this.

And if at anytime you need to change flywheele clutch or anything transmission (after the conversion) make sure it is not 94 model gear but all ea gear. I had a big stuff around after my manual conversion, (ea manual into el engine) as flywheele for el fitted engine but not pressure plate and clutch and a whole lot of swapping took place till I got it right.
