hey im new to ford forums, i have a 96 EF Falcon GLI, ive had it for around 3 months and its my first car, i have just had it serviced at 163 000 and the mechanic has said there is nothing wrong, what is happening is when im driving the revs on the rev meter are surging up and down from between 1700 rpm and 2000.. it is usally most noticeable when im going 100km, it has happened when air con is both on and off so i know its not that. it has just had a FULL service so itt has all spark plugs replaced etc..

the surges arent happening every second it just happens every now and then, and sometimes its done it fairly regulary...

can anyone tell me whats going on and what can i do to fix it??

iv got the same thing but mine revs when it just standing or at low speeds

do u hav any mods to ur car??

Na man i have no mods, its an ex family car.. all stock.. and yesterday my dad and i had a look and found that the spark plug leads haven't been replaced so that could be the reason, like the plugs are misfiring..

I dought very much a miss fire will ever cause a 300 r.p.m. difference. My money is on a
slipping transmission. It's either slipping out of lockup or over drive. your lockup
comes first so it could be slipping out of O.D. Have a trans. shop look at it. It should have set a code by now. Jeffgibbo, your problem could be a T.P.S. idle air bypass,
or a spark modual can also do this. Have a competent tech look at it.
