aftermarkt air filter to ea

ive got a 1990 gl falcon. will eventually upgrade to MPI but in the meantime, wana stick an aftermarket air filter over the carb to get som sound out of it cause they sound mint without the big black tennis raquet thing. a mushroom would fit under but wondrin if its a good idea, anyone done it b4? or wats th best way to do it?

ps the pipe ive highlighted will not b connected to anything if i do this. will this fuk up th car? i think it could make cold starts difficult.
thnx

Re: aftermarkt air filter to ea

that pipe is useless! Just get rid of it, won't affect anything.

As for the filter, if you just stick something there, it will be sucking in hot air.. You could prolly get a better filter fo ya tennis racket.. dunno. Just wait till ya convert to Multi point an chuck a pod on, it would be worth the wait.

must b som way of directing cold air towards an aftermarkt filter. leaving the current piping, jst taking out the big raquet, cold air would still b going to it surely??

naa mate, but o well. parents helpn out until the other guy pays up, and he has to. only 17 so not exactly loaded.
but on another subject, converting to MPI seems to be the thing to do to the EA's, dnt know if im quite ready to take the job on myself yet.
So how much do you reckon it would cost at a shop, parts included??? thnx

Re: aftermarkt air filter to ea

Dude, if the car isnt currently on the road, do the conversion, it actually isnt that hard(according to those who have done it).
All up, the parts should cost you around $300 ish, maybe less. And if you do a search of this forum, that is absolutly sh1tloads of info on the conversion, not to mention if you have a question, people such as NZ (Karl) should be able to help you.

That pipe isn't useless, it keeps the car running better when cold.

Converting to MPFI won't be that hard if you have a shread of mechanical knowledge.
