When I last posted a thread regarding my BA shifter conversion, I'd left it looking all ugly & "naked".
Last night, instead of working on a late assignment, I thought I'd have a crack at fitting up a manual gear boot with the shifter. It's a good thing I bought a heap of vinyl to practice on, because I made about 4 attempts before this one below:
I've got some leather off MADNC_8 (thanks wayne!) which will replace this vinyl and match my seats.
I need to anchor the manual console fascia at the front, because I had to cut out the front bracket/support that the fascia slots into, so it's only connected at the rear (where the electric window switchboard is). I know how to do this, but I CBF sorting this out right now. Also, I know there's some wire showing in the overhead shot (from within the console), but I know how to get around that now that I have the correct vinyl shape and hole pattern (the underside of the fascia has plastic dowling which I used to anchor the vinyl with).
I also need to make a proper "ring" where the shifter shaft goes through the vinyl (leather-to-be). At the moment I'd just made a little slit in the vinyl and reamed the shifter shaft through with the vinyl stretching around it. Sits nicely :naughty:
Finally, I cut some rubber matting to shape to cover up the trans tunnel gaps left by the hugeon hole I cut earlier (for lowering the BA shifter 5cm further so that the manual fascia cover would fit).
After test driving, road noise is minimal now, but I'm guessing it might be marginally louder than a standard EB. I can't really tell to be honest, because I've been used to the road noise for so long, it sounds so odd to be "quiet" again!
I also fitted an EF GLi tape deck today so I FINALLY have FM radio lol. And the orange LCD screen & black face match the rest of the interior

Dellboy999 was the first to do the BA shifter conversion, and his looks more "BA" than mine by using the actual brushed aluminium BA auto fascia. Do a search on him If his info can't be found here, try the .au site

YEAH IVE SEEN I RECKON YOURS FITS IN WITH THE REST OF THE CAR A LITTLE BETTER WHERE DELL BOYS WITH THE BRUSHED ALUMINIAN LOOKS REALLY GOOD BUT A LITTLE OUT OF PLACE.
Well, he fitted his a little differently, having it further up and further back, so that there was minimal butchering of his trans tunnel. He also had to relocate his electric window switches as a result, and fabricate a whole section to sit on top of his centre console to hide his shifter's higher position. In the photos this extra section is obvious as it has been trimmed with a much lighter coloured vinyl, however I think he was/is planning to refit his EA with an ED Ghia interior, which would mean the Ford interior would also match this vinyl colour.
I've currently scored a set of EA lights off ebay for $26, so I'll be working on a BA-style headlight "conversion" soon (also copying Dellboy here), and I've got another BA trick up my sleeve which I haven't told him about yet
