BTR-85 Auto wont change above 2nd!! Any advice?

I have an EF Futura which has done a few km's (about 320,000) and there were quite a few problems popping up with the box.
I have put in a second hand box (out of wrecked EF wagon) as I got it cheap and thought it was worth a go.
Problem I am having is that it wont change above 2nd gear!
1st and 2nd seem to work fine but it wont go into 3rd or 4th!
Any ideas what the problem might be?
The box is a little bit different to the one I pulled out as it has the external band adjustment on it (which from what I can gather means its a BTR-85) Could there be a problem with my gearbox computer talking to this box?
Any advice would be great.

AF??? What model was that?

The BTR85 probably won't work with the ECU; it usually has a seperate trans control module.

OK if it is an EF I am fairly certain the BTR 85 is a no go unless you retrofit the harness and trans control module from a EA/EB.

OK!
The plugs/loom is exactly the same on both boxes.
I felt sure I had heard or read some where before that they should just swap over.
Is there any one else that has tried this?
Happy to hear any ons ideas on this matter.
